I was born in Valladolid
(Spain) in 1968. Since I was a child, I was fascinated by drawing
and image in movement. At the age of 6 and 7, I used to watch
films from the projection cabin of a local cinema because my
father worked as a projectionist. At the age of 9, I was given
a kind of antique toy cinema projector of paper films and started
to draw my first cartoons.
At the age of 11, I was admitted to the School of Art in Valladolid
and dreamed of some day become a comics´ drawer. In 1986
I went to Salamanca to start my graduate studies in the Faculty
of Arts and continued my musical training in the Professional
Conservatoire of Music of this city. I was graduated in 1990
(painting specialty) and I was granted the title of Guitar Teacher
in 1992.
After my graduate training I started my professional career
as a drawing teacher in Secondary Education for the Spanish
Culture Ministry and I continued my practice as a painter and
engraver. In 1998 I asked for a time off work to spend my time
exclusively to my arts career. In 1999 I presented “Animal”,
my first film as a professional that received numerous awards
in festivals in and out of Spain. From then on, I have focused
my career on animation cinema, in the development of my own
projects and cooperation with other producers and also teaching
and lecturing.
In 2001 I was admitted to the Spanish
Academy of Cinema (Direction Branch).
